1. How do I get a Library Card?

You will need to come to the library in person to get a new library card or update a current one. Please check our Library Cards page on here to find out more information.

2. I lost my Library Card; what do I do now?

You will need to come into the library in person to obtain a new card. Patrons who have had their Aldrich Free Library Cards lost/misplaced/broken/stolen must provide photo identification and pay a $2.00 replacement fee to obtain a new card.

3. What are your hours and are you open on Holidays?

We are currently open Mondays 10 am-6pm, Tuesday noon- 6 P.M., Wednesdays 10am-5pm and Fridays from 10 am until 6pm, Saturday 10 A.M.-1 P.M..

Please call the library or check the Aldrich Free Public Library’s Facebook Page to see if we are open or closed due to inclement weather.

4. What does it cost to use the printer, copier, and fax machine?

Please reference our Computer Services page on here for current rates for printing, copying and faxing.

If you are having a fax sent TO the library on your behalf, please call the library in advance to let the staff know.

5. What are the advantages of using the online Verso catalog?

The following are three major advantages to using Verso online:

  • You can see all of your “checked out” items and their respective “due dates”.
  • Search our catalog from home to see if an item is available, or checked out.
  • Reserve an item

6. What is iConn and how do I use it?

iConn is a HUGE database. You will need your library barcode number to get into this database.

You can search at one time:

  • 25 million full text popular & scholarly articles
  • Newspapers
  • Business information on 450,000 companies
  • Health information
  • Over 400 Connecticut library catalogs “reQuest”
  • And so SO much more

7. How do I request a book from another library?

  • To request a book from another library, first be sure it is not currently already at the Aldrich Free Public Library.
  • To do this, go to our state catalog online. Enter the barcode number from your library card. Check the Aldrich Catalog and the State Request Catalog. Enter the item that you are searching for.
  • When the item is found, click on “request this item”. If it is in the Aldrich Library, please come in to pick it up. If it is not there, we will need your name (last name first) and phone number.
  • Please inform the library if you do this , so we will make sure you are notified when it comes in.
  • We will call you when the item comes in for you to pick it up.

You can also come into the library and have one of the staff help you look up items as well.

8. What are the lending periods and fines? How many items can I check out at a time?

  • DVD’s have a lending period of SEVEN days. There is a limit of THREE items per library card. A DVD borrowed on a Monday is due the following Monday. A DVD borrowed on a Tuesday is due the following Tuesday, etc. Fines are $0.50 per DVD per day overdue.
  • BOOKS have a lending period of THREE weeks. There is a limit of 5 items all together that maybe borrowed. Fines are $0.05 per book per day overdue.
  • AUDIO BOOKS on MP3 or CD have a lending period of THREE weeks. There is a limit on audio books borrowed. Fines are $0.05 per item per day overdue.
  • MAGAZINES have a lending period of ONE week. Fines are $0.05 per item per day overdue.
  • PUPPETS Have a lending period of THREE weeks. Fines are $0.05 per item per day overdue.

9. What passes/discount cards do you have for parks and museums?

Discounted pass to Connecticut Science Center.

Wadsworth Atheneum pass.
